In short

Hookup sites go wrong in a handful of predictable ways. A profile isn't who it claims to be, a cheap trial turns into a monthly bill, a chat turns into a demand for money, or a meeting doesn't feel right. These guides take each one in turn, in plain English, with the official places to go for help.
Which guide do I need?
Find the line that matches what's happening, and start there.
| If this is happening | Read |
|---|---|
| Lots of attention, very fast, from people who look like models | Fake profiles |
| Replies at any hour that never quite answer your questions | Chat bots |
| A charge you don't recognise, or a trial you forgot | Billing traps |
| You're about to pay and want to know what you're agreeing to | Reading the terms |
| You want to stop paying a site | Cancelling and refunds |
| You've agreed to meet someone | Meeting safely |
| Someone wants money to keep images private | Sextortion |
| You've lost money or card details | Reporting a scam |
How most hookup scams unfold
Most scams on casual sites follow the same four steps, and each guide covers one of them. Spot the pattern at step one or two and you never reach step four.
- The hook: an attractive profile gets in touch fast, often before you've finished your own. See fake profiles.
- The move: a push to pay to keep chatting, or to switch to another app. See chat bots.
- The ask: money for travel or an emergency, a "verification" link that wants your card, or a request for intimate photos. See billing traps.
- The squeeze: more demands, sometimes threats. See sextortion and where to report a dating scam.
Before you pay
Check the person, then check the money side. Start with the tells of a fake profile and the signs you're chatting to a bot. Then look for the renewal rule, the billing name and the cancel button: the billing traps guide shows what each looks like, and the terms guide shows where they hide. To check a particular site from top to bottom, our site checks page has a ten-minute version, and how we check sites sets out our full method.
When it's gone wrong
Protect your money first, then report. If you need to stop paying, see cancelling and refunds. If someone is threatening to share images of you, read the sextortion guide now, before you reply. And for the right fraud service in the UK, US, Canada, Australia or New Zealand, see where to report a dating scam. For staying safe on this site itself, our safety page has the basics.
How these guides are written
Every guide is written by the Just Naughty Singles editorial team to the rules on our about page. Each external fact, from a helpline number to a consumer law, links to the organisation's own website, and each page shows the date it was last updated. Nothing is invented: example messages are labelled as examples.

Questions people ask
Which guide should I read first?
If you haven't paid any site yet, start with the fake-profile guide and the billing traps guide: between them they cover most of what goes wrong on casual sites. If something has already gone wrong, go straight to the guide for that problem using the table on this page, and call your bank first if money has left your account.
Do these guides apply to other hookup sites, or only this one?
Any casual dating site. The tells of a fake profile, the way trials renew and the clauses hidden in terms are much the same everywhere. Where a guide describes how Just Naughty Singles itself works, it says so clearly, so you can compare it with whatever other site you're using.
Are the phone numbers and reporting services up to date?
They were checked against each organisation's own website when the page was last updated, and every guide shows that date. Services do change their names and numbers, as the UK's Report Fraud did when it replaced Action Fraud in December 2025, so confirm on the official site before you rely on a detail.
